UGC for the win!

Published 5 months ago • 2 min read

The Content Byte

I’ve spent the greater part of this week uploading nearly 100 videos from my Amazon Influencer account to a new YouTube channel.

It’s been a TON of work and I’m not even close to having everything done since I have around 500 videos total on Amazon.

While I was downloading and uploading, I started thinking about what the Amazon Influencer program really was and how the same concept could be applied to smaller businesses.

Although the name is “Amazon Influencer,” it’s really user-generated content, or UGC for short.

What exactly is UGC?

According to Hootsuite, User-generated content (UGC) is any content—text, videos, images, reviews, etc.—created by people rather than brands.

UGC builds trust like no other content since it comes from normal everyday people instead of the brand it’s self.

It’s estimated that consumers believe UGC content is 2.4% more authentic than regular branded content.

So, how can you leverage UGC as a small business?

Here are a couple of ideas:

1. Encourage Customer Reviews and Testimonials: Request customers to share their experiences and reviews. Highlight positive testimonials on your website and social media.

2. Social Media Challenges and Giveaways: Create challenges that encourage users to share content related to your products or services. Offer incentives like discounts or freebies to motivate participation

3. Feature Customer Stories: Showcase customer success stories on your website or in marketing materials. Share how your products/services have made a positive impact on their lives.

4. Utilize Reviews and Ratings: Display customer ratings and reviews prominently on your website. Use positive reviews in your marketing materials to build trust.

5. Create a UGC-Friendly Website: Design your website with features that encourage content submissions. Incorporate user testimonials and images in product pages.

By actively encouraging and showcasing UGC, small businesses can capture the authentic voices of their customers, creating a more relatable and engaging brand.

The Content Byte Hey Reader, Since I recently launched Social Pop, I figured it would be helpful to discuss which social media platforms business owners should focus on. It can get overwhelming with so many to choose from. But with so many platforms out there, how do you choose the right ones for your business? The first step is understanding yourself (your brand) and your ideal customer. What's your brand voice? Playful and casual, or professional and authoritative? Who are you trying to...

The Content Byte The new year brings about new goals, and if video marketing is one of your goals, then keep reading. I recently had a convo with someone almost ready to start recording videos for their business, but they had one problem. They weren't confident on camera. I hear this a lot. As someone who is eternally introverted, I understand. When I first started my YouTube channel, I was HORRIBLE. I tripped over my words, fidgeted, and didn't look into the camera. Recording videos does get...
